Broken Chair, Geneva

The Broken Chair stands in the Place des Nations, opposite the Palace of Nations, in Geneva and was commissioned by Handicap International to urge all nations to commit to the Mine Ban Treaty.

The sculpture, in wood, is by the Swiss artist Daniel Berset and was built by the carpenter Louis Genève. It is 12 metres high and involved 5.5 tons of wood. It was originally installed on August 18th 1997.
