Russia argues that the “cessation” (of hostilities in Syria) does not apply to its air strikes and Syrian President Bashar al-Assad said any ceasefire did not mean “each party will stop using weapons”.

The old, obviously outdated, definition of ceasefire: A ceasefire (or truce) is a temporary stoppage of a war in which each side agrees with the other to suspend aggressive actions.

So, the new definition is something like: A ceasefire (or truce) is a political back-patting opportunity, during which time neither side in a war agrees to suspend aggressive actions.
