The Tiger Mosquito, or Asian Tiger Mosquito, Aedes albopictus, is now reportedly present in most Axarquia coastal resorts, including Nerja. The bloodthirsty females feed during the day as well as at dusk and dawn.
The bites can be more painful than those from normal mozzies and are more noticeable. In addition, the Tiger Mosquito tends to bite humans more than once it it can. The mosquitoes have a black and white pattern on both body and legs.
A typical blood meal for the Tiger Mosquito would be around two microlitres.
