Two of the fleet of eleven Crap Catchers available for the Axarquia region were off Calahonda beach (and the rest of the beaches no doubt) on Sunday. If true, I was rather surprised to read in a recent article that there are only four gardeners currently employed by the Council to take care of all the parks, gardens, pretty roundabouts and other public areas.

Even more surprised (in some ways) to read, in the same article, that there are only seven street cleaners! Would explain a lot. Considering the frequent acquisition of vehicles for the various municipal departments, they must about have one each by now.

Not only are these jobs a useful way to reduce the ridiculously high unemployment, but also essential for a town that constantly harps on about ‘image’ at every available opportunity. Particularly when visitors and residents alike appear to have a total disdain for waste receptacles – just look over the Balcon de Europa or even down the barrels of the cannons!
