Today is the so-called ‘supermoon’ when this satellite will be at its closest to Earth since 1948 – the next such occurrence is not until November 25th 2034. Supermoons can be up to 14% larger and 30% brighter than normal, but this is apparently only really noticeable when compared to seeing the Moon at the furthest point within its orbit. So take a picture of the supermoon and then the next full moon and compare the two.
The Council is reportedly going to resurrect a long-paralysed project to build a Formation Centre in the Barriada de los Poetas following upon another injection of European funds. Construction of the centre began in 2003 with an investment of over two million euros but stopped in 2007 when the funds ran out. In 2009 there were plans to restart work and adapt the building for use by the Municipal Band and Music School amongst others but, once again, there were no funds and nothing happened.
There are also plans (European funds of course) to build a Reception Centre on the site of the old cement factory and to control access to the popular rio Chillar trail. However, there are always ‘plans’, just have to wait and see if anything actually happens or, if it does, whether it gets finished for a change. And then opens and gets used!
