Residents Day 2015 in Nerja is unlikely to go down in the annals of history as any sort of success due to some rather bizarre decision-making.
This annual event was postponed due to the regional elections in March, which is fair enough, but instead of being held the following week, as was originally planned, it was eventually scheduled for May 9th.
Not only was it postponed for over a month, it was changed from its regular Sunday spot to a Saturday. In addition, it was moved to the smaller Plaza Fabrica de los Cangrejos because another big event was being held in its normal location of Plaza de España.
So, a long postponement, change of day, change of venue and, to cap it all, the participating organisations were prohibited from setting up their usual food and drink stalls. Normally, hundreds of people would be watching the various performances while enjoying a snack and a drink.
When I popped along, there were maybe 25 people in front of the stage and perhaps another 20 or so milling around.
