It is all very hot at the moment, Spain in the grip of a heatwave, with little or no wind to move the air about. Even just thinking about doing nothing has been an exhausting endeavour.
One or two people on the beach today, this was Torrecilla beach in the late afternoon.
The carriages have been popular the past few days.
The EU monument certainly looks a lot better in Plaza Fabrica de los Cangrejos, particularly with the water trickling down the stones. More people seem to visit it now and many stick their hands in the cool water which circulates.
However, I hadn’t realised that the fountain was, for a short time, also working when the monument was in Parque Verano Azul. The fountain pump was apparently turned off fairly quickly because the park was the site of the street drinking parties and the trough was used as a urinal by the revellers and the whole thing became somewhat gross.
Bin collections are daily in Nerja – as they are in most places – and there are set times for putting out the rubbish: after 22:00 in the summer. The summer heat makes this essential, and in theory at least, offenders are fined.
In practice, though, the bins are invariably like this from very early in the day – as they were today. Probably the same offenders are the ones most likely to complain about any (almost inevitable) smell.
