El Playazo is the longest, and last unspoilt beach within Nerja town itself, although plans are afoot, and have been for many years, to build a promenade, hotels, houses and various other buildings, even a marina, along the seafront.
Shame really, as there are other beaches with promenades and rows of bars and restaurants. They call it progress, I suppose, although much appears to be more to do with gaining municipal revenue than anything else.
The beach is about 1.7 kilometres in length and the water deepens gradually, no sudden drop as on Burriana for example, and usually has a moderate swell. It has a couple of boatyards and four chiringuitos/bars/restaurants where you can still get a beer and a tapa for one euro.
