The Loro Sexi Bird Park – Parque Ornitológico Loro Sexi – in Almuñecar, Granada province, opened in 1987 and is home to around 100 species of birds including parrots, macaws, peacocks, owls, toucans and ducks.
There are also a few turtles swimming around the pool and there is a nice, and quite extensive cactus garden in the grounds of the park with some quite impressive specimens.
Lori Sexi, in case anyone was wondering, is the old Phoenician and Roman name for Almuñecar.
The park is located in calle del Bikini, across from Plaza de Abderramán near playa de San Cristóbal (the rock with the cross on top) and below the San Miguel Castle. Above you as you wander around the park are the imposing outer walls of the castle.
The park is not particularly suited to those with serious mobility problems as there are a number of sets of steps to negotiate, the park being relatively small in total area and arranged on several levels.
