As I arrived by the riverside this morning my attention was suddenly caught by the almost unmistakeable wingbars and crest of a Hoopoe as it swooped down and landed. Unfortunately I was totally unprepared – wrong lens, camera still at my side – so I just watched and admired this impressive creature before it flew off a couple of minutes later.
I kept hoping to catch another glimpse of the Hoopoe during the rest of my wander – with right lens attached – but it was not to be. Next time. It was actually the first time I had seen a Hoopoe in this particular area.
The Spotless Starlings, Sturnus unicolor, were out in abundance, feeding on the fruits in the trees.
Quite a colourful time at the moment, lots of lovely and often contrasting shades of green and red.
