Farasuto Forest Community Nature Reserve is a ‘wet evergreen forest’, although it is only really wet during the rainy season in The Gambia, that is to say roughly between June and October.
It is a relatively small area, around 4.5 hectares, and is located near Kuloro village, about ten miles south of one of the major parks in The Gambia, Abuko.
It is home to a wide variety of flora and fauna and great efforts are, fortunately, being made to preserve the forest. It is here that I was one of the first to photograph an exceptionally rare all-white Thick-knee on its first ever recorded sighting in The Gambia.
