Wildlife in the Slow Lane
We have had some very mixed weather. One day it rained most of the time and today there was a bad frost first thing in the morning but the rest of the day was relatively mild and sunny. I have been on a couple of walks. Today we walked miles as we got a bit lost and ended up having to retrace our steps. I did see something really funny though. There were several Blue Tits playing and two of them got tangled up in mid-air and fell to the grass. As we approached to see if they were ok, they managed to untangle themselves and fly off. This first photo shows one of the group on a branch.
There were one or two Reed Buntings by the side of the lake.
and, although it began to move as I took the photo, I got quite a good shot of a little Goldcrest.
A Kestrel was hovering over the footpath and I go a couple of photos, as well as a different bird perched by the side of the road.
Out on one of the smaller lakes in Theale, there were several Goldeneye, both male and female. They tend to move away if they sense people so it is not easy to get a good shot.
While walking along the path, a flock of about 50 or more Greylag Geese flew in and landed on the lake.
On a shorter walk at White Swan Lake, this Grey Heron was on a fishing platform by the lakeside.
and I took a few photos of the evening light over Sandford Lake, including a silhouette of a crow about to take off.
and, at Rook’s Nest Wood, I took a couple of photos of the sun setting.
and, lastly, a pretty Mallard and some Snowdrops – a sign of spring in the air.
