There was plenty of snow on the hills and rain in the air on Tuesday and in the middle of the afternoon down came the wet stuff. Time to find a suitable place for a late lunch, which turned out to be Virgil Restaurant in Plaza de Andalucia in Castellar de la Frontera.
Looked like a nice little town but it became too wet to explore. Virgil is deceptively large inside and has a good sized terrace on the square, covered and heated during the winter. Quite cosy and warm. However, we chose to sit inside.
I ordered Jabali con salsa – wild boar in sauce – and I was amazed how tender the meat was, melt in the mouth. The octopus tentacle was also as tender as tender can be and delicious.
The service was very good, the waiter very helpful as well as being extremely efficient. I would definitely recommend the place if you happen to be passing – or even if you aren’t passing as it is not exactly on the beaten track. Very simple dishes, but very tasty.
