Paco Mari

Quite a few places closed for holidays at the moment, or were just closed on the day we went out in search of a steak. Ended up at Paco Mari in calle Gloria which I had only previously tried for their (very good) Menu del Día.

The restaurant, with several seating areas including an Andalucian patio, is always popular and in the summer there are often queues of people waiting for tables. But this is winter, off-season. Still pretty packed though.

I chose a BBQ rib-eye steak, medium, which came with a really delicious jacket potato and a few veggies – no room on the plate for anything more, such was the size of the steak. Others chose the huge T-bone, duck, leg of lamb and other dishes.

The rib-eye was tender, melt in the mouth, although a bit ‘blue’ rather than medium around the bone. The T-bone was apparently a tad more than medium but it wasn’t a deal breaker as both steaks were totally demolished with gusto.

All dishes were given the thumbs-up, no complaints whatsoever.

It is a good atmosphere in Paco Mari and the staff are excellent. They do look, at first sight, as though they might be a bit grumpy but not a bit of it. Great service.
