Calle El Barrio 48, Nerja, (in the alley towards the Avda Castilla Perez end of the street) has been home to countless bars and restaurants over the years, none lasting very long. The latest incarnation, after a refurbishment, is the Sahara Lounge Moroccan Restaurant.
The interior is relatively small but well laid out and there is a street terrace. I have not seen many people eating there since it opened but decided to give it a try anyway as it is early days of course.
Taking our seats we were handed a menu to peruse. We were not offered a drink while we decided upon our choice of meal and had to actually go and ask. Mmm.
When the food arrived – a beef tajine with aubergine and a lamb tajine with carmelized fruits – it was bubbling hot having been cooked in the tajine (a ceramic pot which gives the dish, basically a sort of stew, its name). The meat was extremely tender and just fell off the bone and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Interior: Pleasant enough
Food: Tasty, well cooked and excellent
Service: A bit non-descript and in need of attention.
