Bar El Pescaito de Nicolas is located at number 45 on avenida Juan XXIII in Málaga and to say it has become a popular little tapas hotspot would be somewhat of an understatement.
The bar has a decent sized street terrace as well as an indoor area and, when it opens up again for the evening between 8 and 8:30pm, it does not take many minutes for the lace to be full. Not just full, but within maybe 15 or twenty minutes there is generally a queue of 30 or 40 (maybe more at times) all waiting patiently for a table. The ‘Big Tapas’ is one of its attractions.
The bar is in no way fancy but the tapas are excellent, the service top class and the price is more than reasonable. We were a group of five and had 5 ‘Big Tapas’ (at €2 each), 5 pints, one caña and two red wines, total bill €26. There is a wide choice of ‘Big Tapas’ and on this occasion we had bacalao, mini burgers, fried boquerones, aubergine in honey sauce and pulpo, all accompanied by either salad or chips and bread. Plus, of course, some alioli.
Larger portions – raciones – are also available. There are quite a few bars and restaurants in the area but this always seems to be the most popular. Great tapas, great service…top notch.
